Thanks greatly to everybody for contributing suggestions. I've downloaded it all and am listening intently to every note with the greatest appreciation.

No favorites yet, but I gotta say the sonic precision in
naturalfractals' recommendations are stunning:

My guess is they nailed the acoustic characteristics of the hall to the tenth decimal point and rigged the sound accordingly (thus, naturalfractals' comment the band started "with the Excellent Sound dialed in almost immediately").
This was a transition period in their sound when they had
moved from a rather hard, flinty, spiky chromatic sound (perhaps achieved from filtering out the more distant harmonics?) to the more lush, fatter, warm sound of the later years. I frankly prefer a little more spare and lean
ambiance to the more full-bodied effect, where the separation suffers and it all gets a little squished, but each to their own.
